Why choose fake food?
Posted on
People buy fake food for lots of reasons. Props. Kitchen Kitsch. Quirky Gifts. Table Decoration. Themed Events. Cake Toppers.
They are popular not only because they're long lasting and great value for money, but because one of my aims as the Fake Food Goddess, is to replicate highly realistic props that also offer the nostalgia of vintage style sundaes, cocktails and confectionary.
Take my best seller, the Knickerbocker Glory. These were the desserts of my childhood dreams. Tall, unctuous towers crammed with fruit, ice cream, chocolate sauce and thick whipped cream. None of your throw away squirty cream, but rich, yellow double cream you could almost cut with a knife. There was this super shiny quality to the sauce, and the cherries were always large red juicy things with the stalks still attached.
Whenever I pass an ice cream parlour, I always look to see if they offer this classic dessert but they seem a rarity these days.
So, I decided to do a whole line of American Diner desserts, specifically designed to reflect the 1950s and 60s when ice cream really was made with cream!
